The Festy Experience at Irish Pubs Global Awards 2017

Festy, an Irish blockchain technology payments company based in Cork City, were delighted to be the headline sponsor of the Irish Pubs Global Awards that took place from the 9th-10th of October 2017 in Dublin. What we witnessed there was something very special — a gathering of people from all over the world united by the tradition of welcoming people into their homes and celebrating Irish cultural treasures. The two day event was hugely successful every step of the way but most importantly the IPG Awards allowed Festy to crystallize the concept of crypto payments in the minds of a vast network of Irish pub owners, distillers and drinks company representatives.

The Irish Pubs Global network comprises of 7,000 pubs and approximately 2,500 distilleries & drinks companies.

“In the same way that Guinness is a Global Irish Product, we want to be a Global Irish Service to emancipate you from the central banks and payment systems that have brought you so much hardship over the years”, said Darren Dineen — Head of Business Development & COO of Festy — during his address at the IPG Awards Ceremony.

After an array of intriguing introductions from the strategic partners of Irish Pubs Global for the upcoming year 2018, of which Graham de Barra (founder of Festy) was the final speaker, we embarked on an evening of mischievous mixology masterclasses with the taste of financial freedom on our tongues. Graham spoke of the permissionless nature of the new paradigm of finance and unveiled some of the key features of Festy including loyalty card programs, automated bookkeeping and the promise of 50% less transaction fees than traditional payment processors. This stimulated much fruitful conversation during the pub crawl which was a beautiful bonding experience as I’m sure you can imagine!

The following day was equally as jam packed as the first while the attendees eagerly awaited the main event in the Round Room at the Manshion House.

As the Festy team set up a customised POS system and loaded up the wristbands and contactless crypto cards for the Gala dinner, we were thrilled to see how quickly the bar staff took to the new system; they were fully functioning Festy operators within minutes!

Upon arriving, each guest was gifted a Festy and our real-time analytics told us that almost all of them redeemed their drink tokens at the bar — some were distracted by the Prosecco that was on display courtesy of the Manshion House and who would blame them! There was an air of terrific tension and joy in the room as the winners of each category were announced throughout the evening.

Festy presented the awards for ‘Best Gastro Pub’ and we extend our congratulations to the winners of this and all other categories. The establishments that didn’t take away an award have a constellation on the horizon however as Festy will begin full retail integrations in January 2018 — so really, they’re all winners.

We would like to thank our new affiliate partners at Irish Pubs Global for hosting such an amazing event and we hope to see you all next year!

We look forward to working with all of our new clients and friends very soon. If you are interested in inquiring about bringing Festy to your business please contact graham@festy.ie
